Today’s Tale: We head out with Inferno Squad and members of the Rebel Legion to the Inova Fairfax Childrens’ Hospital.

Garrison Tyranus is part of the 501st Legion. The legion is an all-volunteer organization. We seek to promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality, screen-accurate costumes. We use of these costumes for Star Wars related events. We contribute to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work.

Today’s Tale: We meet Serenno Squad at their monthly armor party and then head to a professional photo shoot!

Today’s Tale: We talk to some celebrities who are also 501st members and see that “Star Wars” means different things to different people…

In April, garrison members and their family members had the opportunity to partake in a particularly poignant tradition at Arlington National Cemetery. Our very own Dallas Kempo (TB-12687) is a Staff Sergeant and serves in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Platoon. Through his efforts, Garrison Tyranus was given the opportunity to take part in the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Dallas also told us about the history of the tomb, the expectations that the soldiers who guard the tomb must meet, and gave us a tour of the Tomb Quarters. The care and detail that go into the making and maintaining a Tomb Guard’s uniform and equipment isn’t all that far removed from the effort that we put into our kits in the 501st.

Being a part of such an event was something that none present will ever forget and we are grateful both for the opportunity and for all of those who have served.

Troopers greeted guests as they arrived at the park, manned the 501st table with a backdrop, and roamed the park throughout the game. Several troopers were even present down on the field for the first pitch! There’s nothing quite like the wide-eyed stares of awe from kids when they see some of their favorite Star Wars characters right there in front of them and there were plenty of those as we wound our way through the stadium. (And plenty of adults were thrilled to see us too!)

We thank Old Line Garrison for all of their hard work in helping coordinate this event and for once again extending the invitation for us to join them at this grueling yet incredibly rewarding event! Here’s hoping that we’ll all be back again next year for Star Wars Day 2018!
